"Come now Kyda," His mother yawned, using her tail to show him the way to the nest.
"But Mommaaa," Kyda sighed, slowly moving to the nest with un-seeing eyes.
"You must get rest, your journey is soon to come," Kyda's mother soothed, lying down next to him. Kyda purred sofly, the feeling of his Other strong at the mention of this journey.
"Momma, what was your journey like?" Kyda asked quietly before drifting off to sleep.
---
Shuffling forward he looked up, and his eyes were opened....
---
Kyda stretched, remembering his dream fretfully. "Mom, when will I have my journey?" he asked for the millionth time.
"It is not for me to decide, only when your Other is found will you begin your journey."
"But how will I know ?" Kyda asked, pawing the ground.
"You will know..."A whispering voice said in Kyda's head.
Kyda gasped quietly; and somehow he knew his mother wasn't supposed to be part of this. "When will I find you?" he questioned mentally, not sure if his 'Other' could hear.
"This is not your Other; I will only be guiding you on your journey. You are very special; and your journey will be different from other Avaydians. I will call for you when it is time," the voice soothed. Kyda sighed, and laid his head on his paws. His sightless eyes stared blankly ahead, longing for the day they could see.
His mother came and gently ruffled his fur with her tail. “You will do well, my son”. At this, Kyda huffed dejectedly, and soon fell asleep.
---
You will be special; you will change the history of all Avaydians. It will take courage, but if you try you will prevail. Your Other will help, she is different from all Others…
---
Kyda woke from yet another unsettling dream. He longed for the day he would see; see her face and the world. But he also was afraid of this great journey, and whatever reason he was destined to be different.
~
Kyda grew over the years, physically and mentally. His body grew larger, almost full size. His spots and coat grew darker, taking place of his soft baby fur. He was almost 20, which was the age most took their journey.
~
"It is time" the voice that had always been coaching him said.
"I am ready" he replied mentally, stepping up to the imaginary starting line.
"This will guide you on your way. You must go directly to her, she does not have accesibilty to get to you. She will tell you the things she knows when you reach her. I cannot talk to you again until you are together, go tell your mother goodbye, and good luck!" The mysterious voice disappeared, leaving behind a mental map. He assumed this would be the way to get to his Other, but he knew he would have to match smells because he could not see yet.

Kyda ran to his mother, and they said their goodbyes. He then launched himself into the air. The air was his first home; it was easier than trying to manage blindly on the ground. He didn't need sight to maneuver; in the air smell and taste was enough. He could sense life by the heat it gave off. Starting out blind wasn’t so bad, when sight came all your other senses were at their highest.

He reached the edge of the only home he had ever known. Kyda hovered a moment, savoring every memory from his childhood. He brought up the memory of the map, estimating that it would take around 5 more days to reach the place he was going to-wherever that was-. He began thinking about Others in general; the stories he had been told as a cub.
---
"Every Avaydian gets a Other," Kyda remembered hearing the story. "Your other is essentially your mate, more than a mate actually. They are what the name implies, your other. The other half of you. The Elders hand chooses your other. As you grow up to be big and strong," the teller stopped for a moment and gently touched Kyda's nose. "They are watching, finding a suitable match. They are the wisest creatures of all. When you are ready, or need guidance; they are there to help. They send you on your journey; they show you how to get there," he had continued.
"Why can't we see right now," Kyda smiled, remembering his question.
"Oh, why can't you see yet; you ask, young Kyda. Well, the Elders thought that the first thing you should ever see is your Other. Being sighless for your first years allows every other sense to become better," the teller had finished then, only to repeat the words to the impatient chirplings a few days later.
---
Kyda flew swiftly, just above the tops of the trees. He beat his wings steadily, flying towards the smell of the lake. It was the first large landmark on his mind-map. Only two hours later he reached it, and flew headfirst into it. Droplets of water shimmered as he came out, a fish glistening in his jaws. He ate it slowly, savoring each bite. Finishing it, Kyda submered again; catching another. When he was full, he decided to rest a few hours before continuing on.

Another unsettling dream haunted Kyda's sleep, but he pushed it aside. He stretched his wings, and again launched himself into the air. The next landmark he wanted to reach was a small dedious forest. Kyda decided it would only take about three hours to reach it, so that meant he was well ahead of the schedule he was trying to follow.

Flying low at first, Kyda quickly decided to go up to the clouds. He sensed many life forms below, more than he had ever felt in a place. It was then that he began to listen. It was very loud below, and tall buildings towered above the ground. Kyda had never been near a building before, only hearing of them in stories. They belonged to the creatures called humans.
---
"Humans are the most evil creatures on Earth. They come to our land with large monsters, and destroy it. They crush the trees, and fill the lakes. They leave little room for us. Avaydia's used to roam the whole planet, but compared to then we have a very small place to stay," a female storyteller had said.
Kyda remembered he had jumped up, and roared as fiercely as a small cub could. "Let’s crush them all."
The storyteller had chuckled, saying,"Calm down now, Kyda. They may destroy things, but we will have to learn to adapt. Maybe someday we can be allies with them."
---
The thought of flying lower was crossed off right away, at least for Kyda. He didn't want to find out which of the stories were true. He flew faster, wanted to get away from the very presence of this kind. The city hadn't even been on his map, where he was now, was a grassy plain on the map.

A very tense hour later, the large city was disappearing. Kyda relaxed; glad he was almost to his second stop. He could sense the thicket of trees, only a few miles away. When he reached them he found a small trickle of water coming from a group of rocks. He took a drink; his parched throat grateful. Kyda prowled around the thicket, finding a rabbit and two mice to eat. He lay in the shade of a large bush, and took a quick nap.

When Kyda woke up, he was very giddy. He realized that in less than 12 hours, he would meet with his Other. He had been traveling faster than planned, and would be early. He hadn't really been thinking about her much, but he hoped she would be somewhat like his own mother. Sweet, caring, and beautiful.

Kyda leapt into the air, beating his wings in turn. He then began to think of what the voice had said."You must go directly to her, she does not have accessibility to get to you." Did that mean she didn't have wings? What Avaydia didn't have wings? Or maybe she was injured?, shaking the thoughts, he again went through the map. The place where it stopped was a small meadow, surrounded by brush and trees. He passed a very rocky field, which was also on the map. He was very glad for this map, but wondered how a map gets transferred into your head. Nobody had taught him about telepathy; though that is the main source of communication with ones Other.

As he got closer, a sense of calm engulfed him. One of the most important events in him life was soon to happen, maybe one of the most important events in all of Avaydian history. But Kyda didn't know, not yet at least. He wouldn't stop until he got there, even though he was getting tired. He flew on.

Kyda's heart leaped as he saw the trees surrounding the meadow. He slowed down, and swooped down. He landed as gracefully as he could, and reached out all his senses. He felt no life glows, like he usually would if someone was around. Trying not to get discouraged, he came up with various reasons that could be happening. "Hello?.." he called mentally, trying to make anyone around hear. No one answered.

His mind racing, Kyda did all he could to stay calm. Maybe he had come to early, the journey could have taken longer. Maybe his Other was still on her way, but maybe he was in the wrong meadow. Disappointed, he laid his head on his paws to wait. Soon, Kyda drifted to sleep...
---
"I am here" A small, timid voice said inside Kyda's head. He jumped up as soon as he heard this, and he could now feel the warm glow of her life-form. But, he sensed something different about her, something he had never been as close too. He recognized it as a human, but she was not old; only 5 or 6.

Instinct took over, and he stepped forward one foot at a time. When he reached her, he wrapped his wings around her body. He was shocked again; it truly wasn't an Avaydain body, but it didn't stop the ritual. The air picked up, wind throwing leaves around them. Just as soon as it started the wind was gone. He took a step back, and opened his eyes. It was the first time, and he was looking at her, his Other. She was no longer young, she was now his age; 20. "You are human?" he asked, the fear gone; for she was now part of him.
"Yes, I am Anya{Ah-nee-ah}" she said as she saw the shock in his eyes. "I was chosen by your elders. Our races are clashing, even though mine does not yet know it. My mother, she knew about the Avaydias. Your elders chose me, because I was younger. As you can see, I am wise beyond my years. That is thanks to your kind. I am now your age, I will age as you do. As you know, if I die, you die. If you die, I can live. You have experienced this through your father's death."
Kyda nodded, trying not to remember. "Why have I been given a human?"
Anya smiled; she had been expecting this question. " We have a mission, and it won’t be easy.
